Saturday Club Ride - Fairview to Montgomery Bell

Fairview to Montgomery Bell State Park

Dr Michael DeRoche has put together a stunning ride for us this Saturday. In honor of the BRAT being at Montgomery Bell State Park this weekend our club route will venture out to the park and back, a ride our we've not done in a while (OK, it is really a coincidence the BRAT is there on the same day). Choose from a 52 mile adventure or a 37 mile Collegial option. Both routes start at Fairview Elementary School so we can incorporate some great rural roads we don't often ride plus allow for the shorter route to get to the park and back.

The reviews are in! HBC’s esteemed former Ride Supremo Larry Lewis pre-rode the 52 mile route with us and said “that was the most fascinating club route I have ridden in many years.”

The long route will take a unique approach to Montgomery Bell (not ridden on former versions), first going through Kingston Springs and White Bluff before riding by the Montgomery Bell mountain bike course and into the park.  The official rest stop is at the Montgomery Bell visitor’s center (mile 34) which has real restrooms and a water bottle fill up station. Other drinks are also available from a vending machine. Bring enough snacks for the ride (or use one of the unofficial stops) as food is not available at the visitor’s center.

There are unofficial rest stops at Burns Park in Kingston Springs (mile 15) with bathrooms, a Marathon station (look to the right at mile 28 stop sign after White Bluff Elementary School), and a Dollar General just off the route at mile 40. This 52 mile ride is a scenic rural route, with lots of great roads. Dr Michael will sweep. Definitely an adventure not to be missed!

The 37 mile route goes to Montgomery Bell Park in a more direct way, entering the Park and down the hill to the visitor’s center and rest stop. Both the long and short groups then climb back through the park and head home along the same route. This 37 mile route is the flattest way to get to the park (without riding on Hwy 70 and Hwy 96), but there are still some fun hills along the way.

Cathie Allanson and Tom Finegan are kindly leading the Collegial option on the 37 mile route. Join them for a more relaxed 14 - 15 mph pace

Links to both the routes can be found below:

HBC Sunday Ride!

Ride Start: Westhaven parking lot — 1025 Westhaven Blvd., Franklin 37064

On most Sundays, we ride out Boyd Mill and then take the tough climb up Parker Branch. At the end of that road, various groups form for different distances and routes. It is easy to do a 25- or 30-mile route, although most regular riders will add miles along the way.

What to Know:

  • The Sunday ride with the HBC is less formal than other rides, with groups self-organizing at the start based on pace and intended difference. During prime season, most groups will go 30 to 50 miles.

  • At the ride start we will establish the approximate distance that various groups intend to ride.  If you are unfamiliar with the Sunday ride (or a guest rider), we suggest you get there with ample time to check in with the ride leader and find a group to ride with.

  • There is no official sweeper on Sunday rides, given the nature of the group splitting into smaller sub-groups.

  • The most standard 40-mile route is linked below for any rider who feels they need a cue sheet. Note that this doesn’t mean that any other group will be planning on following this route, however.

HBC Showcase Ride

At Harpeth Bike Club we believe we have some of the best roads for cycling across the region, if not the nation, so we are holding a special day of rides and inviting non-members to come and ride with us

For our regular Saturday ride on October 4th we have 4 routes to choose from with distances from 100 to 25 miles. Each route is run as a normal club ride. The routes are unmarked so each rider must have a GPS device or cue sheet. Rest stops along the route will be country stores, so bring method of payment. Each route will be swept by an experienced HBC member, so no rider will be left behind. HBC members can provide assistance on the road, but there is no SAG wagon so please make sure you have a cell phone, tubes, pump, and anything else you may need. Helmets are compulsory.

Hillsboro Elementary School at Leipers Fork is providing the Ride HQ, with ample parking and access to rest rooms. We kindly suggest a $10 donation for each non-member riding, which will go entirely to the School. All non-member must sign our waiver on the day before riding. This entitles you to coverage under the club ride insurance.

We hope you will come out, meet the club and ride with us!

Below you will find details of the planned routes. You can download these routes from RidewithGPS in a choice of formats or open and print the cue sheets. We will do a final check on these roads a few days before the ride, so please check back before the ride as the routes may have been modified. If you want to be notified of a route update, or you have any other questions about the rides, please email ridechair@harpethbikeclub.com Thanks!

100 mile route - Ride starts at 7.30am

Saturday Club Ride - East via West Redux

  • Hillsboro Elementary School, 5412 Pinewood Road, Franklin, TN, 37064 (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

East via West Redux

Please note: the Collegial 31 mile route has been updated !

We have a real treat for you this Saturday! Connie Weisner and Angela Gucwa are your ride leaders for a route that cleverly spans both the west and east sides, covering some of the best of both sides. We last did something similar in 2023, so are delighted to add this to the calendar. Choose between the main 50 miles route, and extended 57 mile option and a 31 mile Collegial option.

The longer routes take Bailey to West Harpeth, Sedberry to Thompson Station where we head due east to cross the Hwy31 and i65. We continue through Bethesda, over Pull Tight and on to Allisona where we turn back at Hwy31. We return by Owen Hill and Cool Springs and Peytonsville Road, crossing back over the i65 at the Goose Creek Bypass. The final section snakes westward via Coleman and Carl, to return to Leipers Creek via Southall. The 51 mile route is the same but with a short cut using Arno-Allisona Road. Rest stop options at Bethesda and Peytonsville

The Collegial route doesn't make it across the i65, turning off West Harpeth on Hwy31. From Southall it returns to Leipers Fork via Macmillan, Parker Branch, Hargrove and the final descent down Pinewood for a total of 31 miles. Donna Moore will be leading this route. Please note there is no rest stop on this route

HBC Holiday - Labour Day Ride

  • Car park at junction Parthenon Ave / 28th Ave North (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

HBC Labor Day ride - Monday Sept 1

This Labor Day celebrate with a HBC ride out to the north of Nashville. Dan Jensen has put together an excellent route that starts from the Parthenon (as is usual for our holiday rides) and takes us through the quiet city streets, over the Clarksville Pike bridge and up into the rural roads to white Creek, Union Hill & Joelton. After a gas station stop (or Dary Queen if you want to treat yourself) the route heads back south, skirting Beaman Park and heading back via Sulphur Creek, passing through the Bordeaux suburbs before crossing back into the city and navigating West Nashville to reach the Parthenon

There are two great routes to choose from, a 46 mile and a slimmed down 38 mile option, both with the rest stop at the halfway mark. We hope to see you on Labor Day !!

Saturday Club Ride - Bruce’s Southern Spin!

  • 5412 Pinewood Road Franklin, TN, 37064 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Bruce’s Southern Spin

This Saturday, VP Bruce Green will be leading us south from Leipers Fork all the away to Athendale and back, whilst showing us some some good hills on the way. The route is 50 miles and takes in the steady climb up Sulphur Springs, the long run down Knob Creek, the sweeping curves of Dark Mills and the challenging climb up Roberts Bend. From there we head to the Santa Fe rest stop via the fun and fast drop down Tom Fitzgerald.  The route back takes Godwin, Skelly (Caution! Steep!), Fox Branch and Davis Hollow, before rolling in on Leipers Creek Road. It promises to be a fun 50 miles!

The 30 mile Collegial option will be lead by Connie Weisner and Kurt Scott. This figure 8 route stays closer to home, departing from the long route at Theta to run down Snow Creek and connect back to the route at Godwin. At the bottom of Skelly it turns right and follows Leipers Creek all the way in, although Connie and Kurt can advise if you fancy an alternative route back to Hillsboro School

Thanks to Connie, Kurt and Bruce for stepping up
