HBC Sunday Ride!
Ride Start: Westhaven parking lot — 1025 Westhaven Blvd., Franklin 37064
On most Sundays, we ride out Boyd Mill and then take the tough climb up Parker Branch. At the end of that road, various groups form for different distances and routes. It is easy to do a 25- or 30-mile route, although most regular riders will add miles along the way.
What to Know:
The Sunday ride with the HBC is less formal than other rides, with groups self-organizing at the start based on pace and intended difference. During prime season, most groups will go 30 to 50 miles.
At the ride start we will establish the approximate distance that various groups intend to ride. If you are unfamiliar with the Sunday ride (or a guest rider), we suggest you get there with ample time to check in with the ride leader and find a group to ride with.
There is no official sweeper on Sunday rides, given the nature of the group splitting into smaller sub-groups.
The most standard 40-mile route is linked below for any rider who feels they need a cue sheet. Note that this doesn’t mean that any other group will be planning on following this route, however.

Saturday Club Ride - Penguin Hunt
(We’re going on a) Penguin Hunt
The Polar Bears have arisen from their Summer slumber and are hungry! Come and join Durk for the first of the off-season rides as we head out from Hillsboro school on a loop of the west side. We shall tackle the fun climbs of Green's Chapel, Liberty Road and Backbone (old 96). Choose between 46 and 32 miles routes, both of which have a rest stop at Fairview. Durk will be riding the short route. The long route will ride Bear Creek in the east to west direction, the first time we've done that in a long while. There will be plenty of options to add a few extra miles if you want them, with a group likely to start from Westhaven for an extra 12 miles overall. Check the HBC GroupMe for details.

Saturday Club Ride - Old Trace Trot Revisited
Old Trace Trot Revisited
For the last Saturday of the Season we will be riding some of our regular west side roads with a revised version of the Old Trace Trot we last rode in 2023. There are 3 routes to choose from, 52, 45 and a Collegial 30 miles.
We all roll out on Leipers Creek then take Davis Hollow up to the ridge. As the name suggests all routes will use at least part of the Old Trace, with the longer routes following the full length parallel to the new Trace from the junction with Bending Chestnut right through to the junction with Steam Mill Hollow, nearly 12 miles of snaking over and under the Parkway! From Steam Mill Hollow we drop down to Water Valley and over to Santa Fe for the rest stop. We may check out the Diner for their Cinamon Rolls! We then use Gaskill Branch and Chestnut Ridge to get to Theta at which point the 52 and 45 mile routes divert. The longer route tackles Boston-Theta and Sycamore to reach Bear Creek and come back in via Bailey, whilst the 45 drops down Sulphur springs and returns via Leipers Creek.
The Collegial route comes down from the Old Trace on Fox Branch then goes up Sulphur Springs to Theta. It then takes Boston-Theta to Boston to pick up Bear Creek from where it follows the same path as the long route back to the school. There is no rest stop on this route, but it's a short diversion to David General at mile 22 if required
Tony Pile will be leading / sweeping the long ride, so no surprises that there are a few hills! You can thank him personally on the day! Donna Moore has kindly volunteered to lead / sweep the Collegial route. Thanks Donna!
Come out and join us for the final hurrah of the full season!

Saturday Club Ride - The Eagleville has Landed Backwards
After the west side fun of last weekend, this Saturday we return to the east side, with Matt Yette leading us on trip from Trinity Park down to Eagleville. We are revisiting the "Eagleville has Landed" route from Spring last year, but running it in reverse. Choose from 55 or 46 mile options, both of which have a fig-8 route (or is that a double lollipop?) and we approach Eagleville from the west via Flat Creek, Floyd and Cheatham Springs Road, all roads we normally tackle east to west. The long route includes the testing climb up Pull Tight, although both the long and medium routes have a lumpy middle section. The rest stop options are the Grindstone Cowboy or Dollar General at mile 25 or 35 depending on your route.
The Collegial option is a 32 route that doesn't reach Eagleville but stays to the west, turning at Bethesda at mile 15, which is also the rest stop. This route includes Gosey Hill as the biggest climb. Joe Della Noche will be captaining the Collegial crew at a 14-15 mph average pace. All routes come back to Trinity Park via Peytonsville-Trinity and North Chapel.
Thanks to Matt & Joe. We look forward to seeing you on the road! Please see the routes below

HBC Showcase Ride
Hey Riders ! - With less than 48 hours to the HBC Showcase ride, here are a few reminders….
Make sure you have your chosen route on your navigation device or phone, or have printed out a cuesheet form Ride with GPS. The route is not marked
Check your bike is in good condition. Tyres OK, gears working etc. We have no broom wagon to sweep you up if you have a mechanical issue that can’t be fixed on the road
Check your supplies: charged cell phone, spare tubes, multi-tool, inflation, snacks, 2 water bottles recommended for longer routes
It’s going to be a fine and sunny Fall day - don’t forget your sun screen
We’ve corrected a few cue sheet errors on the routes, although the routes are unchanged. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
At Harpeth Bike Club we believe we have some of the best roads for cycling across the region, if not the nation, so we are holding a special day of rides and inviting non-members to come and ride with us
For our regular Saturday ride on October 4th we have 4 routes to choose from with distances from 100 to 26 miles. Each route is run as a normal club ride. The routes are unmarked so each rider must have a GPS device or cue sheet. Rest stops along the route will be country stores, so bring method of payment. Each route will be swept by an experienced HBC member, so no rider will be left behind. HBC members can provide assistance on the road, but there is no SAG wagon so please make sure you have a cell phone, tubes, pump, and anything else you may need. Helmets are compulsory.
Hillsboro Elementary School at Leipers Fork is providing the Ride HQ, with ample parking and access to rest rooms. We kindly suggest a $10 donation for each non-member riding, which will go entirely to the School. All non-member must sign our waiver on the day before riding. This entitles you to coverage under the club ride insurance.
We hope you will come out, meet the club and ride with us!
Below you will find details of the planned routes. You can download these routes from RidewithGPS in a choice of formats or open and print the cue sheets. We will do a final check on these roads a few days before the ride, so please check back before the ride as the routes may have been modified. If you want to be notified of a route update, or you have any other questions about the rides, please email ridechair@harpethbikeclub.com Thanks!

Saturday Club Ride - Arrington Antics
Arrington Antics
This Saturday we ride on the east side, courtesy of three routes put together by Ride Leader Pete Cachioli. Once again this season we are starting from a brand new location - Arrington Elementary School off Cox Road. This starting point enables us to push deep into the east side territory, with the long route taking us as far south as the Kingdom Road area. It also allows us to offer a largely flat Collegial route with a gas station rest stop at the half way point. Choose from 59, 50 or 29 miles routes, with a choice of rest stops for the longer routes.
All routes stay together to Patterson Baptist Church where the short route heads south towards Windrow and Rockvale. The longer routes go east towards Mufreesboro, turning south at Salem and heading towards the rest stop option at Cresent Market. The 50 mile route turns west and passes through Versailles and on to Eagleville. The 59 mile route adds a section to the south, reaching the Kingdom area before snaking it's way back up to Eagleville. The return routes via Allisona Rd, Owen Hill, through Arno and Rudderville to McDaniel Road.
Mucho gracias to Pete for putting together these routes and sweeping the 50 mile group. Kudos to Bob & Michele who will be leading the Collegial 29 mile option.
Links to all the routes, and helpful maps, can be found below:
Thursday Evening HBC Ride from Hunters Bend
Ride Start: KinderCare parking lot — 2121 Fieldstone Parkway, Franklin 37069
This route takes riders from the north side of Franklin out for a nice run on the Natchez Trace Parkway. Once they've climbed the ramp up to the Trace, riders cross the Big Bridge and descend to Pasquo. Then they travel on the nice bike lane on Temple Road and along the lovely Old Natchez Trace.
What to Know:
The route is 25 miles and attracts both racers and regular riders, but it is NOT for novices.
While Fredia Barry and Scott Thurston lead the ride, there is no sweep, so riders are responsible for knowing the routes, as detailed below. Our leaders will make sure everyone who left the parking lot with our group has returned before they depart after the ride.
When the ride has to be cancelled because of weather, Fredia will send a message by the General List. More info here.
Later in the season, we will switch to the late season routes below

Given that this group is informal, keep the following in mind:
The group typically meets in the Westhaven parking lot (1025 Westhaven Blvd., Franklin 37064), although this may change prior to the ride start.
Depending on the weather, the ride start time and distance may vary!
Routes vary from 30-60 miles and the typical average speed varies anywhere from 14-18 mph.
To stay up-to-date on the ride (and post-ride) plans, join the informal communication list for this regular group. Contact Sarah Berger or Durk Peterson to be added to the Tues/Thurs Group e-mail list:

Saturday Club Ride - Fairview to Montgomery Bell
Fairview to Montgomery Bell State Park
Dr Michael DeRoche has put together a stunning ride for us this Saturday. In honor of the BRAT being at Montgomery Bell State Park this weekend our club route will venture out to the park and back, a ride our we've not done in a while (OK, it is really a coincidence the BRAT is there on the same day). Choose from a 52 mile adventure or a 37 mile Collegial option. Both routes start at Fairview Elementary School so we can incorporate some great rural roads we don't often ride plus allow for the shorter route to get to the park and back.
The reviews are in! HBC’s esteemed former Ride Supremo Larry Lewis pre-rode the 52 mile route with us and said “that was the most fascinating club route I have ridden in many years.”
The long route will take a unique approach to Montgomery Bell (not ridden on former versions), first going through Kingston Springs and White Bluff before riding by the Montgomery Bell mountain bike course and into the park. The official rest stop is at the Montgomery Bell visitor’s center (mile 34) which has real restrooms and a water bottle fill up station. Other drinks are also available from a vending machine. Bring enough snacks for the ride (or use one of the unofficial stops) as food is not available at the visitor’s center.
There are unofficial rest stops at Burns Park in Kingston Springs (mile 15) with bathrooms, a Marathon station (look to the right at mile 28 stop sign after White Bluff Elementary School), and a Dollar General just off the route at mile 40. This 52 mile ride is a scenic rural route, with lots of great roads. Dr Michael will sweep. Definitely an adventure not to be missed!
The 37 mile route goes to Montgomery Bell Park in a more direct way, entering the Park and down the hill to the visitor’s center and rest stop. Both the long and short groups then climb back through the park and head home along the same route. This 37 mile route is the flattest way to get to the park (without riding on Hwy 70 and Hwy 96), but there are still some fun hills along the way.
Cathie Allanson and Tom Finegan are kindly leading the Collegial option on the 37 mile route. Join them for a more relaxed 14 - 15 mph pace
