Montgomery Bell & Burns Blast!
Fairview Elementary School, 2640 Fairview Blvd. (Hwy. 100), Fairview 37062

For this Saturday Weldon is taking us in a westerly direction over some very scenic roads to the town of Burns and through Montgomery Bell State Park on a 50-mile course.  There is a Medium 42-mile option that makes it only to Burns and a Short 27-mile option that stays nearer to Fairview.  All of these routes start off in Fairview riding along the back of Bowie Nature Park.  The Medium and Long routes follow each other to Burns (rest stop for both).  The Long Route, which Weldon will sweep, will go farther north and then travel south through Montgomery Bell State Park.  The Medium Route takes a short cut to Cathey Hollow Road for the return of both routes towards Fairview.  Many of these roads we will ride in the opposite direction than we usually do and there will be some climbing.  The Medium and Long routes both tackle Dug Hill Road (but at least in the easier direction!).  Weldon has specially designed a Short, 27-mile route, which Amy Crownover will lead, making sure that no one is left behind!

A couple of warnings:
Long Route:  Riders need to take it slow down the final descent on Laurel Furnace Road to safely stop at the stop sign on US 70 (a very busy highway!)

Long & Medium Routes:   The first section of Spencer Mill Road has a nice descent, but riders need to keep a lookout for yellow poles on the sides of the road for a new gas main.  The road at those poles has potholes and gravel which you may not expect.

Here are the cue sheets:

Burns 42 - Medium route - GPS

Fairview 27- Short route - GPS

This Saturday also brings the annual charity ride, Pedal for Paws, up in Sumner Country.  The ride offers four routes, starting from Gallatin.  Here's a link for more info:
