Old Trace Trot Revisited
For the last Saturday of the Season we will be riding some of our regular west side roads with a revised version of the Old Trace Trot we last rode in 2023. There are 3 routes to choose from, 52, 45 and a Collegial 30 miles.
We all roll out on Leipers Creek then take Davis Hollow up to the ridge. As the name suggests all routes will use at least part of the Old Trace, with the longer routes following the full length parallel to the new Trace from the junction with Bending Chestnut right through to the junction with Steam Mill Hollow, nearly 12 miles of snaking over and under the Parkway! From Steam Mill Hollow we drop down to Water Valley and over to Santa Fe for the rest stop. We may check out the Diner for their Cinamon Rolls! We then use Gaskill Branch and Chestnut Ridge to get to Theta at which point the 52 and 45 mile routes divert. The longer route tackles Boston-Theta and Sycamore to reach Bear Creek and come back in via Bailey, whilst the 45 drops down Sulphur springs and returns via Leipers Creek.
The Collegial route comes down from the Old Trace on Fox Branch then goes up Sulphur Springs to Theta. It then takes Boston-Theta to Boston to pick up Bear Creek from where it follows the same path as the long route back to the school. There is no rest stop on this route, but it's a short diversion to David General at mile 22 if required
Tony Pile will be leading / sweeping the long ride, so no surprises that there are a few hills! You can thank him personally on the day! Donna Moore has kindly volunteered to lead / sweep the Collegial route. Thanks Donna!
Come out and join us for the final hurrah of the full season!
