Saturday, July 20 - 7:30 A.M. for main routes
8:00 A.M. for Collegial ride
Snail Shell Showcase!
Cecil Lewis Park at Trinity, 3680 North Chapel Road, Franklin 37067
For this Saturday we'll try the route that was twice rained out several weeks ago. Phil Scharre will led us on a fun course that showcases many of the best roads on the east side of the local cycling world! Since conditions will still be hot, the ride will start at 7:30. The full route is 53 miles, starting from Trinity Park. From there, we'll take Wilson Pike out to the scenic run on Osburn Road and over to Almaville, where an early rest stop at mile 14 is available. Then we'll ride over to Newman Road's upgrades, the steep turn onto South Windrow, and the very fun, long descent on Snail Shell to Rockvale, where another rest stop is available on Hwy. 99 at mile 26. The ride comes home by the exciting course on Gene Underwood and Taliaferro to Cox Road and back over to North Chapel. There's a Short option of 38 miles that skips Snail Shell and goes directly to Cox Road by Patterson.
We continue our Saturday Collegial Ride option, which will start at 8:00. This ride is again drawing very nice turnouts. The ride takes a shorter course for those who like to proceed at a bit calmer pace, led by experienced leaders who make sure everyone is on course, and with regrouping when appropriate. This Saturday Amy Crownover will again lead the Collegial option at a 14-16 mph pace. The Collegial route is 33 miles and follows the long route through the Almaville area. Then it takes Rehobeth to the nice flat runs on Patterson and Cox and comes back up Wilson Pike.
