HBC Hiking Social!
Marcella Vivrette Smith Park, 1825 Wilson Pike, Brentwood 37027

Update from Jovce last Thursday-
Greetings HBC’ers!
Steve and I are leading a hike this Sunday at 10am on the Marcella Vivrette Smith Park future mountain bike trails in Brentwood. They aren’t officially open yet so now is the time you can check them out by hiking on them.

I hiked the trails today - it’s just under 5 miles with almost 700 feet elevation gain. It’s muddy in spots and will probably be even more so on Sunday with the rain we’re getting Friday. There’s also a couple of small creek crossings, but my shoes stayed dry by walking on rocks across the water. Just be forewarned and wear appropriate shoes. It’ll also be pretty cold so dress warm.

I’m on the BikeWalkBrentwood Board and have been heavily involved with the Mountain Bike trails project and have gotten the go ahead to lead a hike there. We expect the trails to officially open by March or April, although there are already some mountain bikers riding the trails!

We’ll meet in the parking lot by the soccer fields on the left side of Ravenswood Mansion (as you’re facing it) before 10:00 so we’re ready to begin hiking at 10:00 sharp. Lunch afterwards at Mineo’s Pizza and Wings off Carothers Parkway (330 Mayfield Dr., A-11). We look forward to seeing some of you this Sunday! If you haven’t already, please sign up on the sign up link below.  Feel free to text me if you have any questions.

We offer a hiking option for this Sunday.  Our Social Chair Brenda Mikec has formed a hiking committee that will organize hikes during the cooler weather - and beyond!

Location: For the month of January, Joyce & Steve Grizzle will be leading a hike at Marcella Vivrette Smith Park.  Smith Park is a beautiful park with scenic trails located right in the heart of Brentwood.  We will be hiking the new MOUNTAIN BIKE TRAILS that are being built there.  They aren’t open yet so now’s your chance to check them out before they are open only for mountain biking.
Parking: Please park in the lot to the left of the mansion (near the soccer fields).  The group will meet in front of the pavilion (near the restrooms).  Please allow enough time to park, get ready, use the restroom, and find the group.  You will want to wear appropriate hiking shoes and layers.
Type of hike: This will be a moderate 3.5-4.5 mile hike and will take approximately 2 hours.
Post-hike food & drink: Mineo’s Pizza & Wings, 330 Mayfield Dr., A-11, Franklin
Leave No Trace: Pack it in, pack it out.  NO littering. If you would like to pack a garbage bag to collect any trash seen on the trails, please do!  This is a small way by which we can do our part to help keep our parks clean.
RSVP: To help us determine how large of a group we will have, please RSVP below. Spouses, family members, friends, and well-behaved dogs (on a leash) are welcome too.  We look forward to seeing those who can make it on Sunday!
