Grand Finale Ride & Cookout on Sunday!

  • Home of Jordy Wetzel 3705 Pishon Trail Franklin, TN 37064 United States (map)

Our annual HBC Grand Finale Ride and Cookout, previously scheduled for this Saturday, have been postponed until Sunday! All the forecasts indicate that the rain we needed in August and September is going to arrive on Friday and Saturday! Because of the large quantity of meat and other food items that Jordy is preparing for the cookout, it is necessary to make an early call.

Consequently, our HBC Saturday ride is CANCELLED. We will NOT have the regular Sunday Pancake ride. Instead, plan to come to Jordy's house at 9:00 on Sunday for our special ride, followed around noon by the cookout! Please don't forget your food item to contribute to the feast. And if you'd like some bargains on HBC jerseys and socks, this is your chance! Here are all the details:
Sunday, Oct. 27 - 9:00 A.M. - Grand Finale Ride & Cookout! - Home of Jordy Wetzel, 3705 Pishon Trail, Franklin 37064, just off Hwy. 96, 1 mile west of Old Hillsboro Rd. intersection - At the end of our Prime Season, the Club always follows our ride with a fun cookout. To end this season, our Social Chair, Jordy Wetzel, is hosting this big event for us! The ride will start and finish at Jordy's house, which is in familiar territory just off Hwy. 96. Pishon Trail goes off Hwy. 96 to the south, one mile west of the traffic light at Old Hillsboro Rd. It's at the foot of the climb on Hwy. 96 up to Waddell Hollow. We pass it all the time! Jordy has plenty of parking in his yard and driveway.

Jordy has developed two route options of 35 and 56 miles, which Larry will sweep. The routes are concurrent for 25 miles, so everyone can get in a good ride before deciding how hungry they are! Here are the cue sheets:

Grand Finale Ride - Long route - 56 miles - GPS

Short route - 35 miles - GPS

The feast will begin around noon when riders return.  Jordy is expert at smoking meats, so we'll have smoked pork butt for pulled pork and smoked chicken for pulled chicken, along with rolls for making sandwiches.  For sides, we'll have baked beans and corn souffle.  The club will furnish water and soft drinks.  Riders are requested to bring a salad, dessert, or other side dish.  The forecast for Sunday looks good!

In cleaning out the storage unit, we have realized that the Club has lots of attractive jerseys from past Harpeth River Rides that are still in their plastic wrappers!  So at the Cookout riders may have a jersey in exchange for a donation in an amount of each person's choice.  Funds from these donations will be given to Ride for Reading, an excellent local program that combines cycling with providing books for area youth and is headed by loyal HBC member Brenda Mikec.  In addition, the present Club jerseys will be on sale for the reduced price of $40, and socks will be on sale for $5 per pair.  So stock up on your cycling gear!  Cash or checks only; the club is not set up to accept debit or credit cards on these transactions.
