if you are a member of the Harpeth Bike Club, you should be receiving Announcements from us regarding club events. If not, check your spam filter or make sure that we have your correct email address, or check that you did not unsubscribe from our mailing list. Announcements are reserved for official bike club communications, and will usually have the Harpeth Bike Club logo at the top. This is used to send ride and other event information to current paid members, and is only available for communications from club officers.

The Harpeth Bike Club also makes use of three Google mail lists, to which anyone can subscribe (and unsubscribe, as needed):

  • General: A general email list (hbc-general@googlegroups.com).
  • Ultra: An email list specific to the interests of Ultra Cycling and Randonneuring (hbc-ultra@googlegroups.com).
  • Tandem: Email list for our Tandem Cycling Community (hbc-tandem@googlegroups.com).

You must be a member of the list in order to send emails to these lists. They are not moderated, nor controlled in any way by the Harpeth Bike Club.

So, which of these should I sign up for?

That’s up to you. If you are a member — and subscribed to the list when you joined — you will get Announcements. That’s good, because that’s the best way to know about official upcoming rides, or when weather forces a cancellation. However, there are some ad hoc rides, hikes, trips, or other get-togethers that may only get posted by members on one of the Google lists. If you want to know about everything, sign up for everything. If the communications get to be too much, you can always unsubscribe.
